I’ve spent the last week in Frisco at the Dallas Cowboys facility for Nike’s premier event for high school football called The Opening. The top ranked players at every position gather together for a week of competition against the best in the country. Many of these athletes will play professional football and currently are committed to the best college programs in the country. Many of the coaches are former NFL players & many current players are in attendance (Zeke Elliott, Deshaun Watson, Andy Dalton, Antonio Brown to name a few). Nike goes all out to make this event best in class! The quarterbacks that attend this event are the Elite 11 finalists. One of the best parts of this camp is the 7 on 7 tournament. These QBs are introduced to NFL pass concepts/progressions and are challenged to execute against the best linebackers and secondary in the country. At the end one QB is chosen as the MVP. Former Aggie quarterback Jerrod Johnson and myself coached Team Overdrive together with OU commit Spencer Rattler & Tennessee commit Brian Mauer. We lost our first game and then proceeded to rattle off 4 wins in a row to win the championship! Spencer was selected the Elite 11 MVP! It was an incredible experience!
